Sub-project Ib: Professional Education – Acquisition of Mathematical Skills

Sub-project lb aims to develop, test, modify and evaluate diagnose instruments, materials and didactic settings which should promote and develop mathematical skills. This happens in close cooperation with various partners, such as VAB-O-Classes (pre-qualification year for work/employment with focus on gaining German language skills) at vocational schools, the Volkshochschule Heidelberg (vhs HD) (adult education centre) and the BBQ Berufliche Bildung gGmbH (vocational training). Previous projects and findings to support participation in and through (mathematical) education are described in the following.

Developing the Skill Surveillance Sheet – BBQ (Sinsheim) to Assess Professionally Relevant Skills

Founding of a concept (skill surveillance sheet) for the assessment of occupation-relevant competences of young people in internships and training situations. The skill surveillance sheet was developed in cooperation with the Integration Office of the Rhine-Neckar District Administrator’s Office. The testing and evaluation was carried out in spring and summer 2018 in the training departments of the Stift Sunnisheim in cooperation with the BBQ Berufliche Bildung gGmbH. The goals of the skills surveillance sheet are:

Creating a skill-profile
Documentation of skill development
Objectification of observations
Theory-based analysis of certifications and evaluations

Preliminary results

The evaluation of the surveillance sheet was successfully completed. The surveillance sheet will soon be available on the homepage of the Real-World Laboratory.

Self-Learning Materials for Language Acquisition in Accompanied, Flexible Learning Groups Together with the VHS

Development, evaluation and sustainable spreading of self-learning materials for refugees in first reception centres.

Mathematics in Arabic?! An Exploratory Study to Observe Mathematical Skills in Intercultural Comparison

Basic research regarding the consideration of mathematical competences of Arabic-speaking, asylum-seeking young people at vocational schools in Baden Württemberg (transition system) in comparison with German-speaking pupils in the ninth grade of different school types as well as German-speaking pupils of vocational schools (transition system).
