Sub-project Ia: Professional Education – Language Acquisition

Sub-project Ia aims to develop, test, modify and evaluate a competency framework for classroom use for the acquisition of foreign languages as well as teaching and learning modules for recording and promoting language skills. This happens in close cooperation with VAB-O-Classes (pre-qualification year for work/employment with focus on gaining German language skills) at a vocational school in Heidelberg.

Target-Group-Specific Development and Adaptation of Didactic Learning Opportunities in VAB-O-Classes

Recording and promoting language competences from refugees.

Development, trial and qualitative testing of a second language competence grid suitable for teaching in order to determine the individual language acquisition level based on spontaneous speech data after a mute video boost or classroom performances.
Development, trial and qualitative testing of a standard grid for classroom lessons to combine learning processes in the areas of vocabulary, grammar, and linguistic action by the sentence-structure tool “Satzleiste”.
Development, trial, and qualitative testing of multi-level teaching and learning modules for strongly heterogeneous learning groups of the same topic in each case.

Project partners

Julius-Springer-Schule (Commercial School Heidelberg, VABO head of department Christel Herzog, StD’in) in cooperation with Hotelfachschule Heidelberg (Ursula Hummel).

Preliminary results

The knowledge gained and the developed products (6-step language acquisition competence grid, multi-level teaching learning modules) can be used in strongly heterogeneous groups and transferred to linguistically heterogeneous learning in all subjects.
The developed materials for the language acquisition levels A to C (partly A to D) are ready to be used for training teachers.
From the analysed data, first exemplary evidence was extracted and processed for the training if teachers.
Competence grids and differentiation concept were already transferred and expanded in sister projects for primary level and secondary level 1.
